Welcome
This website was created in 2006. Its purpose was to help create a groundswell of support for a United Nations sponsored Fifth Women’s World Conference (5WWC) that in size and influence would be a major step toward a change in planetary consciousness through the active involvement of women at every level of society. It is now being maintained as a site that will give people the background of this grassroots initiative and as a place for people to register their organizations in support of a 5WWC.
If you would like to be involved in this initiative, feel
free to read through this site for background information about the
initiative and to register
your organization in support of a 5th World Conference
on Women. Then make sure to visit our new site for up-to-date information
about the initiative.

CONFERENCE BACKGROUND
The first four conferences were sponsored by the United Nations. The last was held in Beijing in 1995 and produced the Beijing Platform for Action, which if fully implemented on a global scale would make the world a safe place for women and children. This will be possible only when violence of all kinds—from domestic to war, is no longer acceptable.
Now at the beginning of the 21st century with the state of the world as it is, it is a crucial time for women to come together to make a difference. This conference would be the first since the Internet made worldwide communication easy and would likely be the largest and most effective gathering of women ever held. It would accelerate reaching a tipping point.
Listen to Jean Shinoda Bolen at the 3rd International Women's Peace Conference discuss the importance of women's conferences including the planned Sophia Conference in 2010 and the need for a 5th Women's World Conference. |
